'Molly's Game' Wins Big at the 2017 Winter KCET Cinema Series

Following a screening of "Molly’s Game", Director/ Writer Aaron Sorkin attended a Q&A hosted by Cinema Series host Pete Hammond. The film is based on the true story of Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high stakes poker games for Hollywood’s elite, famous athletes, business moguls and even the Russian mob. She was known as the poker princess, millions passed through her hands each year until in 2013 she became the target of an FBI investigation and was charged with running an illegal poker empire. The film also stars Idris Elba and Kevin Costner.

Special guest Aaron Sorkin is an Academy Award®-winning writer as well as a renowned producer and playwright who is making his directorial debut with "Molly’s Game." Among Sorkin’s many credits are his film adaptation of "A Few Good Men," "Malice," "The American President" and "Charlie Wilson's War." In 2011, Sorkin won the Academy Award, Golden Globe®, Critics Choice, and British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award (BAFTA) for Best Adapted Screenplay for "The Social Network." Sorkin won the Critics Choice Award and New York Film Critics Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Money Ball." Sorkin also wrote the feature film "Steve Jobs" which he received a Golden Globe award for Best Screenplay in 2016.

For television, Sorkin created and produced the popular NBC series "The West Wing" which earned nine Emmy® nominations in its first season. The series went on to win a total of 26 Emmy Awards, including the prize for Outstanding Drama Series four consecutive times. For his work on the series, Sorkin twice received the Peabody Award and the Humanitas Prize, as well as three Television Critics Association Awards and Producers Guild Awards, as well as a Golden Globe Award and a Writers Guild Award.

Sorkin is currently in various stages of production on two exciting and notable projects, "To Kill a Mockingbird" for Broadway and the NBC live presentation of "A Few Good Men."
