'Stan & Ollie' Makes An Historic Mark at the Winter 2018 KCET Cinema Series
Following a screening of "Stan & Ollie," director Jon. S. Baird and actors, Steven Coogan, John C. Reilly and Shirley Henderson attended a Q&A hosted by Cinema Series host Pete Hammond. Director Jon S. Baird is best known for his work on "The State We’re In," "It’s A Casual Life," "Green Street Hooligans" Cass" and "Filth" which won numerous awards and played at several international film festivals and it is in the top ten highest grossing UK “18 certificate” films of all time (the equivalent to an R rating in the U.S.). Baird’s recent television credits include two new episodes of the new AMC show "Feed The Beast" starring David Schwimmer and the second episode of the new Showtime series "I’m Dying Up Here" created by Jim Carrey.
Actor Steve Coogan landed his first job as an impersonator and comic on the satirical TV series, "Spitting Image." Additional television credits include "Alan Partridge," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Simpsons" and "The Trip," for which he won the BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance. In 1992, Coogan won the Perrier Award for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Coogan has won seven BAFTA Awards and was nominated for two Academy Awards® in 2014 for "Philomena" (Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay). Coogan’s film credits also include "The Parole Officer," "24 Hour Party People," "Night at the Museum," "Tropic Thunder," "In The Loop," "The Look Of Love," "Alpha Papa" and the last two sequels in the "Despicable Me" franchise.
Actor John C. Reilly is recognized for films that include "Casualties of War," "The Lobster," "Kong: Skull Island," "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator," "The Hours," "The Good Girl," "A Prairie Home Companion," "The Thin Red Line," "Carnage," "The Perfect Storm," "We Need to Talk About Kevin," "Talladega Nights," "Stepbrothers," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and his Academy Award nominated performance in "Chicago." Reilly will star in the upcoming "Holmes & Watson," "The Sisters Brothers," as well as voicing the lead in the sequel to Disney’s animated smash "Wreck-It Ralph."
Actor Shirley Henderson has starred in television dramas including "Southcliffe," for which she won the Scottish BAFTA award for Best Actress, "Jamaica Inn," "Happy Valley," "The Taming Of The Shrew," "May Contain Nuts," "Dirty Filthy Love" and "Treasure Island." She is most well known for her role as Moaning Myrtle in the "Harry Potter" franchise and for her role as Bridget Jones’ chardonnay-swilling sidekick Jude in the "Bridget Jones" franchise.
