'The Current War’ brings the Ruthless Race Between Electricity Giants to Life at the 2019 Fall KCET Cinema Series

Following a screening of the Director’s Cut of “The Current War,” Alfonso Gómez-Rejón shares the details of his historic biopic about rivals Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse with KCET Cinema Series host Pete Hammond.

Alfonso Gómez-Rejón was born and raised in Laredo, TX on the U.S. Texas-Mexico border. He received his B.F.A. from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and his M.F.A from the American Film Institute. He began his career as a personal assistant to Martin Scorsese, Nora Ephron, Robert De Niro and Alejandro González Iñarritu. He went on to direct second unit on such films as the Academy Award-nominated, "Babel," and the Academy Award-winning, "Argo." He collaborated again with Scorsese on Chanel’s “Bleu de Chanel” ad campaign by writing the Scorsese-directed short film. Alfonso’s critically-acclaimed second feature, "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl," was the 2015 Sundance Film Festival winner of both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award, and was released by Fox Searchlight. In television, he has garnered Emmy nominations for his work as director and co-executive producer of "American Horror Story: Coven;" he directed episodes from the first four seasons of "AHS" and "Glee." He is currently directing and executive producing the feature-length pilot, "The Hunt" (working title), for Amazon Prime starring Al Pacino and Logan Lerman, which drops this winter.
