Over the last few years we’ve been hard at work to bring meaningful programming into your living room every minute of every day. The result has been outstanding! We’ve grown our ratings by leaps and bounds, and none of it would have been possible without supporters like you. From 2014 to 2016 we increased our weekly average primetime viewers by 56%! In 2015 our most-watched show was BBC World news, followed by everyone’s favorite travel guide, Rick Steves’ Europe and the iconic Los Angeles authority, Huell Howser. But that’s not all—KCET viewers tuned in every week for BBC favorites Doc Martin and Father Brown. In 2015 we were committed to offering meaningful original programming like SoCal Connected and Artbound, and we invested in new seasons for 2016, along with an exciting slate of new programs to air like Luther, The Fixer, and Shetland.

Online
This year we launched a newly designed website, where you can find thousands of local stories, delicious recipes, in-depth character profiles from your favorite shows, and exclusive web-only video for you to enjoy whenever you want. In 2015 the most visited kcet.org page was an article from the LOST LA series: The 5, the 101, the 405: Why Southern Californians Love Saying 'the' Before Freeway Numbers, where readers learned how Southern Californians came to treat their highway route numbers as if they were proper names. We also worked to bring original content to our social media platforms. Did you see that video of how to make fluffy, creamy garlic sauce? KCET’s extremely popular social media outlet, Facebook, had over 10 million impressions in December, 2015 alone! We’re making it our goal to bring you fun, original content that you can access anywhere – any time

Education
On kcet.org we explore critical issues affecting everyone in our community. We post articles daily on topics ranging from arts and entertainment, to environment, food and living, history and society, and news and analysis. We tackle issues like renewable energy, wildlife and the threats they face and the value they bring us, and exploring critical water use and access issues around the revitalization of the Los Angeles River. We explore everything Southern California by publishing articles with fresh perspectives about our region like KCET Food, offering readers restaurant reviews, recipes and articles about agriculture, hunger issues and food justice; and collaboration with our community through Departures–our online documentary series that explores the cultures and pressing social issues affecting Los Angeles’ diverse neighborhoods.

Community
We like to stay busy by engaging with our community whenever possible! We have been fortunate to partner with organizations like the Los Angeles Zoo and the World Conservation Society to raise awareness of the devastating impact the illegal ivory trade is having on the African elephant population; New Directions for Veterans, an LA-based organization committed to building a national community in which all at-risk veterans and their families lead lives of honor, dignity, well-being and respect; and the Los Angeles Public Library and Frontiers magazine to help educate the public about LGBT persecution in Cameroon, Africa, and other parts of the world, and the measures being taken to grant refugees asylum in the US.

This last year we featured the most anticipated new films of the season prior to their release at the KCET Cinema Series. Held in eight-week sessions in the spring, summer and fall, the series brings audiences great films, thought-provoking stories about the big screen, and engaging conversations between top movie talent, film critic and series host Pete Hammond.

And we asked you for your input. In 2015, we brought our Kiosk to more than 25 cultural institutions and civic centers all over Southern California. We collected community responses to topics such as the environment, transportation, government policy and social welfare, and all responses were posted on the KCET website.

WHERE DOES MY MONEY GO?

KCET is a non-profit, which means that we must use our revenue to further achieve our mission, unlike a for-profit business, which distributes profits to their shareholders. The bulk of our revenue goes directly to support the shows you love---as you can see above. The rest goes to everything from operating the television cameras to producing exclusive content on kcet.org, and supporting the staff who're responsible for making sure that KCET is always there for you to come home to every day.
