A Full Week of Huell Howser Fan Favorite Food Episodes Starts Sept. 2 on KCET

In celebration of 25 years of "Visiting with Huell Howser," we're airing a special lineup of fan-favorite, food-themed episodes! See how Huell’s love of food began over a quarter of a century ago: visit the iconic Pink’s Hot Dogs stand, tour the beloved Burbank restaurant The Tallyrand and join Huell in his exploration of Cuban food at Porto’s Bakery. The "Visiting with Huell Howser"​ food specials will kickoff Sunday September 2 at 6:00 p.m. and air nightly throughout the week of Monday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on KCET.

Donuts – Sunday Sept. 2, 6:00 p.m.

Stan's Corner Doughnut Shop of Westwood, Calif. has been baking the world's most gourmet donuts for almost 40 years. From a cinnamon chocolate cheese danish to a Reese's peanut butter pocket with fresh banana, Stan's offers pastries you won't find anywhere else in the world. Huell spends the morning doing "research" at this Los Angeles landmark.

Tomatoes – Monday Sept. 3, 7:00 p.m.

Fosselman’s – Monday Sept. 3, 7:30 p.m.

Huell indulges in a summer treat at Fosselman's Ice Cream Co. in Alhambra, a 95-year-old family-owned business that still uses an original family recipe.

Tamales – Tuesday Sept. 4, 7:00 p.m.

Every year down in Indio there is a great gathering of International Tamale makers getting ready for the Christmas holidays. Join Huell & Luis as they stuff themselves silly on every kind of tamale you can think of, from the traditional pork to a delicate a rasin.

Pink’s Hot Dogs – Tuesday Sept. 4, 7:30 p.m.

Family owned and operated since 1939, this L.A. institution has been serving up some of the best chili cheese hot dogs this side of Coney Island. Huell get the lowdown from Mrs. Pink and a handful of enthusiastic patrons, many whom have been eating at Pink's since their childhood.

Halal Food – Wednesday, Sept. 5, 7:00 p.m.

Huell learns about the Muslim food tradition of halal. First stop is Payless Produce -- a Halal market known for its Halal meats. Then its off to China Islamic, a restaurant, to sample some very tasty food that proves that this ancient Muslim tradition is alive and well here in Southern California and gives us insight into a very rich and important part of everyday life for our large Muslim community.

Tallyrand – Wednesday, Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m.

Huell visits a California institution and digs into some tasty food at Tallyrand Restaurant. This popular eatery got its start in 1959 when Al and Delores Thomas opened a small coffee shop on Olive Avenue in Burbank with just $5,000 in hand. Stop in today as they are still serving wonderful food and hospitality.

Chorizo – Thursday, Sept. 6, 7:00 p.m.

Huell visits Carmelita's, where they make some of the best Mexican sausage in L.A., using their own secret family recipe.

Polka Restaurant – Thursday, Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m.

Who knew that an obscure mini-mall in Glassell Park could serve up such tasty, authentic Polish food? Huell talks to Andrew and Katherine Dabrowski at Polka, their warm and welcoming restaurant that dishes up coveted, but hard-to-find Eastern European cuisine in Los Angeles.

Munch Box – Friday, Sept. 7, 7:00 p.m.

Huell heads to Chatsworth to visit The Munch Box, a popular burger stand that has been around since 1956 and is now officially a historic cultural landmark.

Porto’s Bakery – Friday, Sept. 7, 7:30 p.m.

Porto’s Bakery in Glendale is a family-owned and operated business with roots in Cuba. Join Huell as he samples Cuban sandwiches, guava pastries and decadent cakes.
