Earth Day Specials on Endangered Marine Life to Air on KCET
KCET commemorates Earth Day 2017 with a look at the current issues surrounding the health of our ocean's coral reefs, marine wildlife, and other environmental concerns. The following programs aim to educate and inspire viewers to support and explore some of the most valuable ecosystems on earth.

New Environmentalists “From Peru To Tanzania”

The film is the latest in the Emmy Award-winning series featuring inspiring portraits of six passionate and dedicated activists, including Destiny Watford, who organized her community to prevent construction of the nation’s largest incinerator in a Baltimore neighborhood less than one mile from her high school.

This installment of the series "Earth Focus" explores our ocean's coral reefs and the imminent danger they face in the wake of climate change.

This competition is highly visible as brightly-colored fish compete for food, territory and mates. Oceans support life, yet they are overfished, polluted, and, with global climate change, are becoming increasingly acidic. The XPrize Ocean Initiative seeks to solve some of these critical threats by bringing in teams from around the world for high-profile competitions to find the best new technologies and stimulate investment in research and development.
Saving Sea Turtles: Preventing Extinction

Late each autumn, hundreds of sea turtles become stranded on Cape Cod due to hypothermia. For more than 25 years, the New England Aquarium and the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary have worked together to rescue, rehabilitate and release thousands of these sea turtles, mostly Kemp's Ridleys, the world's most endangered sea turtle.
