Support Provided By

This week, Huell discovers historical flagpoles, goes hiking at Doheny State Beach, has a run in with VIncent Price and more!

Monday - Aug. 1, 7:30pm: Flagpoles - Huell visits two historic flagpoles. The first was (at one time) the tallest flagpole in the world, but it's located in Calipatria, which sits 184 feet below sea level. So with its 184 foot pole, the Calipatria flag flies just at sea level. Then on to Livermore where the flagpole has an even stranger history... it's being carved into various wooden chotchkies including smaller flags!

Tuesday - Aug. 2, 7:30pm: Doheny State Beach - Huell visits Doheny State Beach in Orange County to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the park. Doheny is famous for its surfing and laid back California atmosphere. We'll visit with families who have multiple generations that have grown up on the great waves of Doheny. We'll also learn about camping throughout years at this idyllic spot.

Wednesday - Aug. 3, 7:30pm: Vincent Price Art Mueseum - Huell visits the Vincent Price Art Museum in East Los Angeles. Price and his wife Mary Grant Price donated a total of 9,000 pieces of art from their collection to create this museum featuring Mesoamerican, African, Native American, and European works.

Thursday - Aug. 4, 7:30pm: Glacier - Join Huell as he hikes high up in the Eastern Sierra to visit the Conness Glacier in a stunning part of the National Forest.
Check out this Youtube user's video of a hike up the Conness Glacier:

Friday - Aug. 5, 7:30pm: McCloud - Huell visits the historic lumber and railroad town of McCloud, located at the foot of Mt. Shasta, California's second highest mountain. Included in this adventure is a trip on the famous McCloud railroad, a visit to the local swimming hole located in a magnificent natural setting and a tour of the town and its quaint, old buildings.
