You never know what you may find when you go walking in your neighborhood -- a favorite spot, a lost memory, and perhaps new connections to the streets, houses, buildings, and people who make up the neighborhood.

ArtLABStephanie2

The Youth Voices student producers from ArtLAB had an opportunity to do just that when they took a field trip to Elysian Valley, visiting the Community Recreation Center, Nomad Gallery, theL.A. River and many spots in between. Along the way they took pictures and conducted interviews with each other and community residents, including Damon Robinson, owner/artist of Nomad Gallery. They talked about important places and people in their community and what it means to be part of Elysian Valley.

Below are some of the students' pictures that capture the many aspects of the community. Look out for more of the students' work as they continue to create and collect media to tell their neighborhood story.

Los Angeles County Is Testing AI's Ability To Prevent Homelessness

In order to prevent people from becoming homeless before it happens, Los Angeles County officials are using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to predict who in the county is most likely to lose their housing. They would then step in to help those people with their rent, utility bills, car payments and more so they don't become unhoused.
