Community Field Trip: Lincoln Heights
The NELA River Collaborative project builds upon the growing momentum of efforts already underway to transform the Los Angeles River into a "riverfront district" and to create a focal point of community revitalization. For more information visit www.mylariver.org
Sometimes a walk can be much more than just a walk. It can be an opportunity to see a street in a different way, with a different eye, and ask questions of what, why and how. For the Youth Voices student producers at the L.A. Leadership Academy it also provided a chance to leave school for a short time and contemplate the narrative they are developing for their neighborhood project through photography.
The clouds overhead provided a diffused blanket of light as the students took their short walk. The students' photos will become part of the neighborhood story that they are building, and will ultimately become an interactive digital mural -- a street level journey through their community, from their point of view.
Enjoy a sampling of their work below and look our for more of their creativity in the coming weeks.
